Narrative
Located on a Lot of 30,000 SF the goal was to create a compound for a family of four. Using the Garage elements and wrapping the house around the eastside, we were able to develop a courtyard that was protected from the high winds in the area. The owners are outdoors people and want to enjoy the house inside and out, all year long. Narrowing the width of the house allowed us to have cross ventilation in every room, and to view the entire property as you walk through the house.
The owners are also ER Doctors – the “mud room” was set up as a detox process when they get home from the Hospital. They drop their scrubs, shower, and robe, before walking through the courtyard – into the house through the canning room, which represents the peaceful calm of being home.
The house has many areas for arts and craft projects, as well as performance areas for their two girls to entertain their friends and family.
We truly strived to have the house open up fully to the outside wherever possible.
